This safari takes us deep into the lush green rainforests of Uganda. From the forest of Kibale to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. We’ll watch lions and other predators on the prowl in the savannah grasslands of Queen Elizabeth, then go gorilla trekking in Bwindi.
Day to day itinerary details
Day 1
Drive via Equator to Queen Elizabeth Park for Evening Game Drive
Set off at 06:00 am to drive for 8 hours to Queen Elizabeth National Park. We’ll stop by the equator crossing for photo opportunities and for lunch. Thereafter, proceed to the park where we’ll embark on an evening game drive. With luck, some of the big cats like lions will be seen in addition to other big game like elephants and buffalo.
Arrive at the lodge during sunset and settle in for dinner and the night.
Day 2
Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise
Wake up to the sound of wilderness and embark on an early morning game drive. Look out for the leopards, buffalo, antelope, and lion among other big game that inhabit the Mweya peninsula. Also look out for the smaller wildlife, especially the banded mongoose troops, in this area.
Return to the lodge for lunch, then set off for a boat cruise along the beautiful Kazinga Channel. The channel is teeming with aquatic wildlife like crocodiles and various bird species that flock to this area.
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight’s stay.
Day 3
Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Via Ishasha Tree climbing territory
After breakfast, drive through the Ishasha sector where we’ll stop for lunch. After a picnic lunch, we’ll start a search for the famous tree-climbing lions. Proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, where you arrive in the late afternoon. Unwind in the peaceful forest-side lodge as you prepare for the action-filled day of gorilla trekking.
Day 4
Gorilla Trekking In Bwindi Impenetrable Forest & Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
On this gorilla safari in Uganda, we’ll trek in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to the biggest number of mountain gorillas among all national parks. After briefing at 08:00 am, we’ll head into the depths of the jungle for what is a most unique wilderness experience. The rangers will walk you down the narrow forest paths through thick undergrowth. Once found, the rangers will brief us on the dos and don’ts before making any contact with the mountain gorillas.
We’ll spend up to 1 hour watching the gorillas in their natural habitat. We’ll get in proximity with the gorillas as you quietly observe the gorillas play, eat, forage, groom, sleep, and, if we are lucky, we’ll get to watch the gorillas mate. This once-in-a-lifetime experience will give us unique insights into the life and social dynamics of the gorilla families. Gorilla watching also gives us a chance to observe the uncanny similarities between gorillas and human beings, and gorillas with whom we share 98% DNA. If we are lucky, we will experience the playfully exuberant energy of the juveniles who often skip from branch to branch and play with heightened enthusiasm when in the presence of humans.
After seeing the mountain gorillas, we’ll break for a picnic lunch in the forest before embarking on the hike back to the gorilla lodge.
After a long day’s trek, embark on a journey to the rejuvenating Islands of Bunyonyi. Enjoy dinner at the lakeside as you unwind by the lake shores at the lodge.
Day 5
Lake Bunyonyi Cultural Experience
Arise at your leisure as you unwind and recharge after the gorilla trekking. In the afternoon, start the boat excursion to Joshua’s Island, where we are in for a treat and a feel of the local life in Lake Bunyonyi. Learn to make a rolex and see how traditional millet beer is made as you hang out at a local bar and in a homestead.
Options of hiking, quad biking, and swimming in the lake are also on offer.
Day 6
Drive to Entebbe
After breakfast, start the 9-10-hour journey to Entebbe. Arrive and settle in at your hotel as you wait for your late-night departure flight.
